The Frederick Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved

the County’s FY2014 budget last week, making an important change in the structure of the county’s fire tax. County residents will now pay one consolidated rate, instead of either an urban or suburban rate. Moreover, the fire tax will no longer be assessed separately, but is rolled into the property tax rate, moving fund. As a result, the new property tax rate in Frederick County will be $1.064 per $100 of assessed value, an increase from the FY2013 rate of $0.936. Thus, under the new plan, all county residents will pay the equivalent of the (formerly) urban fire district rate of $12.8 cents. To read more about the BOCC’s FY2014 budget, please
